What is Uber in a nutshell?

Uber is your private driver in more than 40 countries. Request a ride using the app and get picked up within minutes.

Where it came from?

Uber Technologies Inc. is an American international transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops, markets and operates the Uber mobile app, which allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request which is then routed to Uber drivers who use their own cars. As of May 28, 2015, the service was available in 58 countries and 300 cities worldwide. Since Uber’s launch, several other companies have emulated its business model, a trend that has come to be referred to as “Uberification”.



Regardless of the company’s massive success, there is still some downsides in the service.

Here’s how much you could make as an Uber or Lyft driver in 20 major US cities

While there’s a huge disparity between how much ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft say their drivers can make and how much drivers say they’re making, we should arrive at a more accurate picture by looking at the data.

Thanks to SherpaShare, a financial-analytics site that allows drivers who work for on-demand companies to track their earnings, that picture just became clearer.

According to Uber, in 2014 the median wage for an UberX driver working at least 40 hours a week in New York City averaged to about $43 an hour. A more recent report from Uber, however, put that number closer to $30 an hour.

By aggregating data from more than a million drivers tracking their trips between January and May 2015, SherpaShare was able to average the price per trip in 20 major US cities.

While SherpaShare didn’t reveal the average number of trips per hour drivers could make, we now know that the average price for a New York City Uber or Lyft driver is close to $29.

French Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi has died, nine months after suffering severe head injuries in a crash at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.

Formula One has been rocked by the news that Jules Bianchi has passed away. F1 correspondent Daniel Johnson looks back over the driver’s career and his devastating accident

Soon after Jules Bianchi’s finest hour in Formula One around the streets of Monte Carlo – just 15 miles from his home in Nice, and the hospital where his fight to survive ended on Friday night – a dozen French journalists crammed into Marussia’s modest motorhome.

Bianchi, 25, had been in a coma since crashing his Marussia into a recovery vehicle at October’s rain-hit race.

His family said: “Jules fought right to the very end, as he always did, but today his battle came to an end.”

The Marussia team, now known as Manor, said Bianchi had left an “indelible mark on all our lives”.

He is the first F1 driver to die from injuries sustained in a Grand Prix since Brazilian triple world champion Ayrton Senna was killed at Italy’s Imola circuit in 1994.

Bianchi, who had suffered a diffuse axonal injury, died in hospital near his parents’ home in Nice in the south of France.

His family said: “We thank Jules’s colleagues, friends, fans and everyone who has demonstrated their affection for him over these past months, which gave us great strength and helped us deal with such difficult times.

“Listening to and reading the many messages made us realise just how much Jules had touched the hearts and minds of so many people all over the world.”

Bianchi made his F1 debut with Marussia in 2013 and was also a member of the Ferrari young driver academy after previously working as a test driver for the team.

The Manor team said in a statement: “Words cannot describe the enormous sadness within our team this morning, as we come to terms with losing Jules.

“He has left an indelible mark on all our lives, and will forever be part of everything we have achieved, and everything we will strive for going forward.”

F1’s governing body, the FIA ,said the sport had lost one of its most talented drivers.

“Jules Bianchi was a popular personality in F1, possessing the best of both human and sporting qualities,” it said.

The accident happened when Bianchi’s car slid off the track and into a crane picking up German driver Adrian Sutil, who had crashed at the same spot one lap earlier.

A working group of the sport’s governing body, the FIA, investigated the accident and found that as Bianchi went off the track into the run-off area, he “applied both throttle and brake together, using both feet” over-riding the fail-safe mechanism. His front wheels had also locked.

It also said that Bianchi “did not slow sufficiently to avoid losing control”.

The world of motorsport has been paying tribute to Bianchi.

McLaren’s Jenson Button posted on Twitter: “Last night we lost a truly great guy and a real fighter. RIP Jules, my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.”

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean said: “Yesterday we lost one of the best guys and best drivers I’ve ever met. I’ll miss you so much my friend.

Williams’ Valtteri Bottas paid tribute, saying: “Woke up to the very sad news. RIP Jules. You will be never forgotten. My thoughts are with the family.”

“No words can describe what his family and the sport have lost. All I can say it was a pleasure knowing and racing you,” tweeted British driver Max Chilton, who was Bianchi’s team-mate last year.

“Rest in peace dear Jules. We lost a great fighter today. All my thoughts are with you and your family,” tweeted endurance racer Andre Lotterer.

Toyota reportedly working on a flagship, hydrogen-fueled Lexus limousine


Toyota is hoping to define the world of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles with its uniquely styled Mirai sedan in a fashion similar to the way the Prius pops into people’s minds when they think of a hybrid. The Japanese automaker believes it can sell about 700 FCEVs worldwide in the first year alone and build rapidly from there to an estimated 3,000 sales in the US by 2017.

Of course, not everyone is completely enamored with the Mirai’s design. Toyota is rumored to have an alternative in the works to quell some of those naysayers, possibly taking flagship form with a new Lexus LS powered by fuel-cell tech.

The LS FCEV could be unveiled by 2017 to sit at the very top of brand’s lineup. According to an inside source speaking to the Australian website Motoring, the front end would feature larger air intakes to cool the electrical components. The fuel cell would reportedly be positioned under the front seat, and the hydrogen tanks would be located under and behind the rear seat. Somehow, Motoring claims that all of this might be lighter than the current LS600hL hybrid, to the tune about 440 pounds. The model is also claimed to offer a range of about 239 miles, just a bit shy of the Mirai’s roughly 300 miles.

Assuming this vehicle actually exists, the cost for buyers of this flagship would almost certainly ring up at more than the LS600hL’s $120,440 base price.

Sergio Pininfarina, an already legendary racing car


While the final version of Sergio Pininfarina has not yet been revealed, future copies of the concept car have already all been sold. The vehicle will be produced by Ferrari in only six copies.

On the occasion of the 2013 edition of the Geneva Motor Show, the Italian company Pininfarina paid tribute to its founder by presenting the concept car Pininfarina Sergio. Given the success of the model, the company decided to produce the fireball in extremely limited edition.


The vehicle will be produced by Ferrari in Maranello plants in only 6 copies, which have already all been sold. The Italian firm has chosen to offer the vehicle exclusively to its most favored customers.

To date, the selling price of Sergio Pininfarina is estimated at 3 million euros. If the rate is confirmed in the coming days, this luxurious car would be placed among the most expensive in the world, just behind the Lamborghini Veneno edited only 3 copies and sold for 3.5 million euros.

Elon Musk teases Tesla ‘D’ unveiling on October 9th


Instead of having a crush on Mercedes-AMG GTS next version of its iconic sportscar line. A massive crowd of thousands, of an intimate venue of power. And it’s the American electric car maker who’s teasing us with the launch of the a new line of cars, which it’s calling Tesla D.

The company’s Elon Musk has just teased the unveiling of what looks like another vehicle, the “D,” on October 9th. There will also be “something else” in store, he says. Just what either of those entail is still a mystery, although Musk has previously hinted that the third generation of Teslas would involve both the long-expected “budget” sedan and an SUV smaller than the Model X. There’s a real possibility that you’ll hear about one or both of those EVs in a week’s time.

Update: According to Musk, the interesting wording of his original tweet was unintentional, but interestingly he closed saying “Glad I didn’t mention the other letter!”

The Concours d’Elégance de Chantilly has unveiled the latest creation of Zagato: Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake

The coachbuilder Zagato has unveiled a unique version of the Aston Martin Virage during the event.

Shortly after shown during the Elegance Villa d’Este contest, the builder, designer and coachbuilder Zagato is back at the Chantilly Arts & Elégance contest to present a new model for Aston Martin.


The Italian brand has created a unique model based on Aston Martin’s Virage range. The Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake shows the main features of the previous models, but comes this time in a wagon version.

Commissioned by a wealthy collector, the exceptional car will soon be in hand of its owner.

The new Zagato model displays rows of a break from the usual hunting, but with a certain innovations in design. The roofline of the vehicle down subtly, giving it the appearance of a race car.


The surface treatment of the model is not unlike those of the 50s, while the glass surface of the car is more cleared. At the rear, the features of the fireball in the form of a V.

The vehicle also displays a flag double hump feature dear to its constructor. “The Shooting Brake Zagato creates both surprise and fascination with this new form while retaining the stylistic identities of Zagato and Aston Martin,” explaining the automotive brand.


No indication has yet been revealed about the technical capabilities of the Aston Martin Virage Shooting Brake, however this exclusive car could be equipped with a V12 engine 6 liters.

Jaguar Mark 2, the nostalgic style of Ian Callum


Ian Callum, Design Director for Jaguar firm, reinterpreted one of the flagship models of the brand for a personal project. The legendary car displays some revisited traits and reveals new technical capabilities.

After making the design of numerous models for Jaguar, the design director of the British retailer has put his imagination to one of his personal projects, redesign one of its own cars, the Jaguar Mark 2.


To this end, the designer is associated with the Classic Motor Cars Limited workshop, to modify the physical appearance of this iconic car of the 60s under sketches that he had made. “A lot of thought has led me to believe that the Jaguar Mark 2, after all is a very nice car, could be more exciting in terms of form and performance. While maintaining the purity of its lines, I wanted to add modern elements to its design. Simplification and clarity were my goals, ” said Ian Callum.


Thus, the wings of the car is slightly enlarged compared to the original model. The vehicle also displays a stronger shield and wants to be lower. The wheels on the other hand feature a bigger diameter, 17 inch, while retaining the original rim.

Inside the Jaguar Mark 2 revisited by Ian Callum, the dashboard has kept its main characteristics, confirming the retro style of the fireball. Ian Callum nevertheless wished to change the seats of his car, opting for a red leather upholstery. The driver can also enjoy a Clarion multimedia system installed to its attention.

The redesign of the Jaguar Mark 2 is not just the physical aspect of the car, but also seeks to increase its technical capacity.

After 18 months of work in collaboration with Classic Motor Cars Limited, the car is adorned with a 6-cylinder XK online, can climb up to 260 horsepower. 5-speed manual transmission provides a coupling of 380 Nm.


The driver of this neo Jaguar Mark 2 will benefit from a more comfortable driving, the vehicle is now equipped with power steering and adjustable dampers.


After major changes, the Jaguar Mark 2 Ian Callum is a unique model in the world.
